What is AdBlue?

AdBlue is a fluid used in diesel vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. It consists of a mixture of urea and deionized water. When injected into the exhaust system, AdBlue breaks down NOx into nitrogen and water vapor, both of which are harmless to the environment.

AdBlue removal systems refer to software or hardware modifications designed to bypass or disable the SCR system, allowing the vehicle to run without consuming AdBlue. These systems, often referred to as AdBlue delete kits or SCR delete modules, manipulate the engine control unit (ECU) to stop AdBlue-related functions.

Types of AdBlue removal systems

  • ECU remapping: Modifying the engine software to disable the SCR system. This option allows users to customize engine performance while eliminating AdBlue consumption

  • Plug-in modules: Hardware devices that trick the vehicle’s ECU into thinking the SCR system is operating normally, even when it is not

  • AdBlue emulator: These devices simulate the functioning of an active SCR system, even though no AdBlue is injected

Why are AdBlue removal systems used?

Some vehicle owners may consider AdBlue removal systems for various reasons, including:

  • Cost reduction: Frequent AdBlue refills can be expensive for fleet operators or individuals covering long distances
  • Maintenance: SCR systems are prone to malfunctions (e.g., faulty injectors, and sensor failures), and repairs can be costly
  • Convenience: In regions where AdBlue might be difficult to source, disabling the system eliminates the need to refill it
  • Performance: Some believe that removing AdBlue systems improves fuel efficiency and engine performance

Understanding DPF filter deletion

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is designed to capture and reduce soot particles emitted by diesel engines. It works by trapping these particles and periodically burning them off during a process called "regeneration." However, DPFs can become clogged over time if regeneration doesn't occur correctly or if the vehicle is frequently used for short trips, causing performance issues such as reduced fuel efficiency and loss of engine power.

DPF filter deletion involves removing or disabling the DPF from the vehicle's exhaust system. This is typically done to:
